REMEMBER THE GOOD OLD DAY'S
When when waterproof trouser's were for keeping the rain out, remember the torches for showing us the way, remember the customer service we provided every day , remember our overtime docket's and our pay day , remember our helpful manager's of the day , remember all the time's we finnished early in the day , but most of all remember for all has gone away!.

...like the spare men they used to have in the office, to do overtime and in case someone was sick or on holiday. What do we have now? Pandemonium, chaos, stressed managers and posties and customers getting a sh*** service - so I've been told...k979aaa wrote:...all has gone away!

I remember i kept on forgetting to bring my tourch and had to use street lamps and peoples security lights to see the addresses. That will only happen again when the nights draw and i am out delivering near the evening

Shoes after work
While you remember, put your torch in one of your shoes after you have taken them off "after" work (is there an "after" any more???i love mail sort wrote:I remember i kept on forgetting to bring my tourch and had to use street lamps and peoples security lights to see the addresses. It is frightening to think but soon we might be looking back at now and thinking "ah they were the good old days".

...that's wishful thinking: you are presuming that there will BE a company from within which to work and have those thoughts! Beware of the Thatcher's queue, i.e. the dole queue!boardie wrote:It is frightening to think but soon we might be looking back at now and thinking "ah they were the good old days".

I remember going up a close which had no lights whatsoever and the trusty torch's batteries [cheap] run out; leaving me to grope about in the pitch dark feeling the nameplates for delivery.i love mail sort wrote:I remember i kept on forgetting to bring my tourch and had to use street lamps and peoples security lights to see the addresses. Or the time it ran out again as I come to the top of a close and stood on a cat's tail. I don't know who shat themselves the more the cat or myself!
Those were the days!

I can remember doing a round where it was so cold, the flame on my lighter froze up!

" I once went into a watch menders, slapped me knob on the desk and said can you put a couple of hands on that?"

for me I would say from 1988 to up to the start of SDD, it was great used to go out early morning and you had the whole world to yourself, no one to bother you, I used to enjoy seeing dawn coming up over the horizon, knowing not many people see this, no Victor meldrews to bother you as they were asleep or dead (a popular time for them to pop their clogs statistically)
you do get the odd Milkmen, early morning dog walkers, everybody seemed friendlier at that time, I can leave gates open and walk across gardens without anybody shouting at me
second deliveries was usually a piece of p1ss you had your own and 2 other deliveries to do, you may get a handful of mail and get it done in no time.
Those days are now gone, long long gone
