Yep...can remember these stylish uniform items....best of all was the yellow 'oil skin' waterproofs they gave us (would have been more appropriate on a Grimsby trawler)....kept the rain out...but boy did you sweat.....you had to peel em off.... ahhh memories....

My husband was a telegram boy many moons ago and i seem to remember the white waterproofs with the black belts the peek caps and when the proofs got wet goodness they did smell rank also the heavy weight uniform in dark grey and the crombies and the light grey suits in the summer that made you look like a teddie boy then the dark blue suits and then those fantastic jumpers for the winter that we all had with navy trousers and red pipeing and our thermo jackets with the knitted collers god we had a better uniform in those days better than the rubbish we have now, happy days!

The old grey uniforms had to be dry cleaned, and as you only got a couple of drycleaning
tokens every six months a lot of the blokes didn't clean them very often, and smelt a bit ripe.

Did you have to do the lead seals as well, i can remember when we use to tie the bags with sting and use clips use to wreak your pockets.

I realise this is a very old thread but oh, those memories
I've still got my long grey warehouse coat - covered in paint now and a couple of the blue (fairly modern) bib and brace. In the Summer did any of your mates wear these with little else underneath? Yuch!
The old long sleeved jumpers shrunk after the first wash so it was like being strangled when you tried to use it after.
And the best of all. The blue serge uniforms where the blue colour ran if you got wet or sweated in the white waterproof - so much for St Michael's white pants.
Happy days, not that we thought they were at the time.
