I Managed to get into the old WCDO building on New Oxford St on Saturday.Nike were holding an event there( The building is known as the old sorting office and companies hold all sorts of events there)
Although full access to the building wasn't allowed I was able to see the two loading bays where the vans used to load/unload, also down in the basement where the vans used to park.
I also got to see some of the first floor that was cordoned off ( the security girl let me through). I saw roughly where the frame for my old walk was and a couple of other rooms dead letter section and an office where the charges were collected from? also a lift to the callers office (can't say I remember that before). The shaven headed guard wouldn't let me go to the floors above H+S..... It was strange walking up to the first floor and it brought back memories of signing on for 06:00am for delivery
I have passed by the building a few times over the years and I always enjoyed my time there. I'm amazed its still standing so I'm glad I had the chance to take a look before it goes, I see the old WDO is already under scaffolding ready to come down. Oh well everything changes I guess! I was a much younger man in my RM days!
