I worked for Royal Mail as a delivery postie for about 3 years, something like 15 years ago. I've been doing other stuff but have just moved house to a new area. I'm really hoping to get back on the post, I've missed it! I've signed up for the Christmas Casuals and have since also been granted an interview for part time delivery at my local office next week.

I'm really pleased to have found this forum with the interview tips to help prepare. Brilliant, many thanks to all who compiled them.

Just praying that my driving licence gets back in time from being updated by the DVLA to my new address and that I don't say anything too stupid.

Nice to 'meet' you all. I'm looking forwards to rejoining some postie banter :Very Happy

While its a good thing you know the script, don't let them chuck you out the door without any training, we had a postie join us last week who left around 15 years ago for a career change and he is back without training and dumped on a crap duty and has been making mistakes left right and centre, simple ones too like not filling out p739 correctly, delivering the correct number to the wrong street & leaving parcels in unsafe places + on return to the office not correctly putting p739 items away & to top it all off scans maybe 1% of items he has so lovely failed tracked items in the morning showing up.. awesome.
Knowledge is a treasure but practice is the key to it.

You must have left before SDD came in, so you were on 2 deliveries.

Its changed a lot since then so be ready for a culture shock. 3 1/2 hour deliveries at an absolute minimum, 8 to bags each and driving round in a van with another postie. Frankly its unrecognisable from when I started and that was just as SDD came in.

Thanks for the replies and advice.

Yes, there were still two deliveries a day when I left. I was there for the misjudged name change to Consignia! I'd love a van over the old pedal bikes, lol.

My interview seemed to go OK but there were higher scoring candidates, so unsuccessful for now but on a 3 month waiting list. I'm really disappointed as there isn't anything else I fancy doing.

I was also a waiting list candidate and got offered a job about 6 weeks later.. I think a fairly significant minority of posties come from waiting lists as the turnover of new starters can be quite high. It's not quite the job must people envision when they see a Postie on a round.
