Just spent all evening reading this forum. Pretty much everything I wanted to ask has been answered in the many threads.
Almost a relief (sorry) to hear people are going through the same tripe as myself. This line as been a recurring theme on this forum;
"The law states 4 years,we have a 2 year agreement..................which RM are ignoring."
I'm 6 months away from my 2 years, so there will be a massive fuss during the final few months leading upto it, helps my DO having the absolute bare min of staff.
I'm shocked and stunned by some of the stories on here. I know people are desperate for jobs/work but its so simple to not being taken advantage of.
Any the only real question I have is about transfers. Are they a big no-no? Nigh on impossible at the moment?

Re: Hello, Transfers and stuff.
Not not impossible but as with most things Royal Mail, its you that has to put the effort in to get what you want. Its wrong RM should recognise a happy, well informed and valued work force will produce work of high quality, be more willing to accept change and do so with full commitment. Where as a badly informed, hard pressed and under appreciated work force will resist change especially if they see no benefit.Alverton wrote:Any the only real question I have is about transfers. Our best advice for transfers, or even getting a permanent position in Royal Mail is to visit the offices you want to go to directly and introduce yourself to the Managers. If they have positions available then they are more likely to help you. Whereas HR will just treat you as another employee and won't commit to helping you personally.

Re: Hello, Transfers and stuff.
If you want to transfer even further (Shetland) then my boss would welcome you with open arms.
I am getting transferred South to the Midlands next month to be closer to family.
According to HR, the transfer list closed on 31st March 2012, unofficially if you speak to the DO's involved, you can still get it arranged. I applied for the Midlands job via the website when it was advertised and went down for an interview (500 miles !!). The Manager there knew nothing about the transfer list being closed and has arranged a transfer with my current boss.

Thanks WB, Shetland is a little to far, but thank you.
