Old Boy, Christmas Temp.

Post by Otter »

Having been a postie in Stockton on Tees (TS18) in the early 70s before starting a long career with British Rail/Railtrack/Network Rail I have a feeling of dejavu. I am going to be a Christmas temp in a large sorting office for a few weeks. At the age of 60 I am looking forward to this. Whilst with the railways I became a driver and later station supervisor/manager in the 70s when the TPOs (travelling Post Offices) were in use and there were dedicated parcel trains with associated PO dedicated station staff. We always worked as a team in loading and emptying the trains and even enjoyed a joint social life. This included managers both rail and Post. I am hoping that there may be a permanant opportunity arising in the Post Office. It would round my working life off if I ended where I started, as a postman.

First Christmas "casual" shift last night. Enjoyable working with friendly regular postal staff. Some things haven't changed, apart from the manual handling, the sense of humour and the good natured banter. With all the changes in the air I am amazed that the atmosphere is so calm. Thank you all you regulars. :Applause

Well that is it until next Christmas. Kept on as a Christmas casual until January 14th and enjoyed every minute. Thank you to all at Bradford MDC. :wave

No longer an ex Christmas temp. I managed to start as a Network and Collections driver at Aireborough Hub. Only a temporary position on a rolling contract, however when the reorganisation is over who knows. I am keeping my fingers crossed. The help I have received from the staff at Aireborough has been fantastic to make sure I am able to do my job and fit in. :wave

:Very Happy . A big smile on my face when I meet my collection point staff. The job is hectic at times but very satisfying and work colleagues all great to work with. :wave
