Hi

my name is Mike, and although not working for RM I work for IOMPO an independant admin for the Isle of Man. I have worked for the PO for 32 years, and have been an activist for both UPW (CWU as is now) and Branch Sec for CMA for 18 years upto a couple of years ago.

Have seen a lot of changes within the business over the years aspecially in RM, losing contact with many friends through EVR etc.

Always interested to read views of the current situations within the postal business.

Thanks for the welcome

I have been involved in industrial action myself many years ago, and my personal view is that there are never any real winners for any of the stakeholders! However, there is still a need to make a stand at times and I feel that the pay offer would have been fair in the present climate without the "strings". I have followed the different press releases from both sides and do feel that for RM to think that they could achieve change by not engaging the unions and workforce, and in fairness it would seem inciting them into a confrontation.

Cheers mike and welcome mate.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Hi biggazza

Hi Rocky

yes, there is definitely an agenda and I think that it has been around for sometime!!

I do recall attending a conference in Southport just before Tony Blair took over as Labour Leader. In his speech he made assurances that there was no intention of privatisation under a Labour Government, and the understanding of the importance of having the postal service under public ownership. However, the Government have not shown any support in this in terms of liberalisation and, to me, it would seem that they have used this as a tool for self promotion within the EU and with business mailers in lowering costs, but without any foresight of future consequences.
At least the French and German Governments are holding back with the intention of protecting the USO's sustainability. Doesn't seem that important any more within the UK, as all that seems to happen is the use of the "blame culture" in inefficiencies and cost controls being the be all and end all whether true or not.
