3 day old Newbie

Post by richardkhill »

Hello everyone :wave

Started with RM on 7th Oct as a 'Postie with Driving' on 30hr contract at my local DO (Gonna assume that we're not allowed to mention locations?).

1st day at the DO was a bit of a fuster cluck! Manager thought I was coming in for PM parcels, hadn't bothered to arrange my ID & informed I can't order uniform for 4 weeks!! No intro to the site or other colleagues, and was dumped onto an unsuspecting postie at his frame! :d'oh! Thankfully he was an absolute diamond, and was really helpful & informative. :Applause Ended up spending 3 very enjoyable days with him. But I can see why new starters get so disillusioned though :confused

Got notified today that I'll be going onto my own walk from Monday :Very Happy

So only need to learn sorting the frame, flats, packets, tracked & oversized....and be allocated a PDA, then I'll be ready to go :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy

Genuinely though, really looking forward to getting stuck in properly :dance

Hey Richard, glad you're on board. I too have a newbie filling in for my van share, it's going well, but soon enough he will be put on another route and unfortunately he will have to learn a whole heap of new stuff.

If I was you I would be making notes of each loop starting point on your new frame, ready for Monday, best of luck.

You got your own walk already, that was mega quick, I've been here 3mths and been on diff walks each week, although the other person who started same day has only ever been on the same one, which is a bit unfair.. that's rubbish about your uniform, I orderd most of mine before I started and it was waiting for me on on my 1st.day.. Good luck, and get set for the worst time of year in a few weeks

Personal choice, but best not to as you never know who is 'watching'.

Crikey, 6 weeks in here...I was mentored for two weeks by a workplace coach. I ordered my uniform the day I started. I think the 4 week thing is a very recent change.

just finished my first shift as a postman, I had two great women who I was working with, we started posting letters at 8 am and finished at 3:30 pm
absolutely knacked, they never stopped and walked quickly :wave and still didn't finish all of the letters, they earned every penny and now I know why you don't see old postman.

If you were out by 8 what time did you start? If your on a 30 hour contract you should be back before 3:30, I'm never out over my 6 hours, no matter how busy we are, we either leave a whole walk or bring loads of loops back.. no one in our office stays out overtime to complete walks
