Postage / sizing

Post by slave »

T'other day I ventured in to my local PO, the guy behind the counter was not the cheeriest of chappies but working for a company such as this it's understandable.

Now, I had a few things I needed posting, he had me place them on the scales and then set about printing off the relevant bits.. To my surprise, he classed what was quite obviously a large letter as a packet - he could clearly see the item so why did he try diddling me?? Is this common practice or is my local PO staffed with a village idiot that doesn't know his job?

No, he's the one running your local delivery office .... :chuckle

I think even in the current 'let's make money whatever it takes' climate I find it hard to believe that this chap was deliberately trying to overcharge you.
He's probably not 100% competent with the rules surrounding the weight and size limits of postal items.
If this is a one off then I'd give him the benefit of the doubt but if it happens again then maybe you can disregard my first sentence!!!
If however he is the village idiot then maybe he can apply for Alan Cook's job in May; would anybody notice the difference?

Hope he also offered you a mobile phone top up and tried to get you a quote for car, home or life insurance after trying to get you to send the item by special delivery

It is possible he simply made a mistake - I do it myself occasionally. It doesn't make me an idiot, or dishonest, it just indicates I am human.

You start your post with the word 'now', present tense, and go on to talk about something in the past. Does that make you an idiot?

Nearly been there myself, or hit the wrong button on computer by accident. Plenty of times I have been about to stick a 39p stamp on a letter to find it has a badge in it and should be 61p. Then there's all the customers moaning that there letter won't got throught the slot, "just squash it a bit". If I'd squashed it two years ago they'd have complained about me breaking the contents. Sadly just another stupid, complicated system that will go when I'm in charge. Think actually it came from the regulator??

You could have tried asking him at the time :whistle
