how are vr payments worked out. How can you decide if you want it if you don't know what you are going to get. This is what we are asking in our office

I'm not certain if it works the same way in the Post Office, or not. But in Royal Mail: If you say you're interested in taking VR. You're told how much you will get, and then be asked if you still want to take it. If not, you stay where you are, and there's no comebacks, for not taking the offer. If on the other hand, you want to take the money. You have to work your Notice Period, and then you get the money, when you actually leave.

I hope this helps.

For previous VR exercises, such as the WHSmiths deal, all the staff in the affected office get some paperwork, including a simple calculator that gives a ball-park figure based on current salary and length of service. Any team member who wants to find out more gets a more in depth illustration, based on all the necessary information, and including a finishing date which gives a more exact figure. As Andy2007 has said, if you want it - off you go, if you don't it ends there.
