POL: FINANCIAL SERVICE SPECIALISTS (FSS) – RECRUITMENT

The following joint statement has been agreed with POL in respect to the role of the Financial Services Specialist.

In essence, we have agreed that external recruitment for FSS will be temporarily suspended. This will allow for the bedding in of recent external recruits and also enable the Financial Services Performance Team to concentrate on supporting and developing the FSS currently in post. We would like to point out that internal applications for Financial Service Specialists will continue to be encouraged.

We have agreed the following joint statement:

Joint Statement – Financial Services Specialist recruitment

Building our financial services business is an important part of our plans to create a successful Crown network, and the sales performance from the Financial Services Specialists is strong and in line with our expectations. This promising start has been supported by referrals in branch, making this a real team effort.

There is a clear intention to recruit up to 640 FSS for the Crown network and with around 100 people currently being trained, we expect to have up to 420 FSS in post by the end of the calendar year. The Post Office® and the CWU have been working closely together to encourage internal applications for these roles.

To allow for our new FSS to bed in we have decided to pause external recruitment in the short term. This will mean the Financial Services Performance Team are able to spend more time coaching Financial Services Specialists rather than concentrating on recruitment. This approach will ensure that all FSS are properly inducted and receive the right training, including the deployment of the Financial Services Training and Development framework. This will be particularly important as we move towards the end of the financial year.

Financial Services Specialist recruitment will resume from April and the remaining roles filled during 2009/10. We will continue to encourage internal applications for the FSS role.

We would like to remind our members that the end-state target for the recruitment of up to 640 FSS has not changed, and that our evidence has found that the majority of Crown Offices which have one or more FSS in place, have demonstrated an improved sales performance, which in turn leads to enhanced bonus payments.



Branches are urged to ensure this LTB is provided to our members.
