Sorry for Hold Up But will anyone get done for delay or breaking the USO
A GROUP of businesses have hit out at Royal Mail after days of delays with their post.
Sixteen businesses on the Bayton Road Industrial Estate at Exhall received no mail at all last Thursday and there have been problems and delays ever since.
Joyce Phillips, who runs Apollo Coventry, in Bayton Road, which makes sheet metal, said: "It's ridiculous. We've been waiting for cheques and paying-in books to arrive in the post.
"I've talked to other businesses in the immediate vicinity and they've had the same problems.
"It is the cheques which are the biggest problem. Most businesses run on being paid by cheque."
After speaking to neighbouring companies, Joyce got in touch with The Hub, which is based on the estate and provides support for businesses in the area, to see if anyone else had been experiencing problems.
Toni Wooldridge, facilities co-ordinator for The Hub, sent an e-mail out to other businesses and was inundated with replies complaining about the current postal service in the area.
Businesses including Coventry Toolholders, Firthstones engineers and Universal Beers all replied, saying they had not been getting any mail for days and then receiving it all at once.
After contacting Royal Mail several times, some mail was finally delivered to Joyce on Tuesday but she believes the problem will continue.
She said: "This is bound to happen again. Just because we've received mail now it doesn't mean we'll get it tomorrow.
"What worries me more than anything is they're talking about closing the Coventry sorting office and sending it to Northampton. That will make the situation even worse."
A spokesman for Royal Mail admitted there had been problems delivering to the Bayton Road industrial estate.
She said: "There were 15 addresses on the estate which we were unable to deliver to on Thursday due to high sickness levels.
"We apologise to those customers for this.
"Since then we have managed to make deliveries to the addresses every day."

Mail failing for 1 day is understandable but failing for a complete week, what kind of complete idiot is running that DO (unless he's using the old excuse that it's failed already so it won't make any difference to my bonus if it continues to fail

Two points here. The businesses were waiting on paying in books and cheques. Aren't we continually being told - particularly by the RM management - about the challenge from e-commerce, online banking etc?
Secondly the RM spokesperson claims there were problems with 15 addresses due to high sickness levels. Are you telling me there was not one overtime bandit prepared to do the duty? Was overtime even offered or was it a case of 'It's only 15 addresses let's ignore it and save on the budget.' ? And how about borrowing someone from another office to cover? Isn't that the point of this new fangled flexibility? No, more a case of sod the customer the budgets all that matters.
