Feb 6 2008 by Matthew Aplin, South Wales Echo

A DISABLED grandad is threatening to go on hunger strike in a protest against a post office closing.

Peter Gunnery, 64, of, Spruce Close, Splott, Cardiff, says he is devastated that the post office on Sanquahar Street, Splott, is closing and leaving him with a one-mile journey in his wheelchair to his nearest office on Splott Road.

He said: “I’m going to starve myself. Nothing will pass my lips and that includes life-saving medication.

“We have got nothing this side of Splott and we are being forgotten. This isn’t just about me but other disabled people too.

“The Labour Party started all of this and now they are trying to take credit for keeping a few of the post offices open. They are kicking us in the teeth and I will not let them get away it.

“We all need our services and I’m speaking on behalf of everyone on this side of Splott. I’m not going to pick up my incapacity benefit either as part of my protest.

“I post packages at my post office, I pick up my incapacity benefit, and I meet people there. It’s a shop too and an important meeting place.â€

I always wondered how they got those lines painted on the road.
