Posties raise £25,000 for MS charity

Islington Gazette

A POST office has raised more than £25,000 for a multiple sclerosis (MS) charity - after one of its workers was diagnosed with the incurable condition.

Natasha Crowley, a sorting office worker at the Mount Pleasant Post Office, Finsbury, was told she had MS after suffering from blurry vision at work.

The sorting office embarked on a year of fundraising and collected £25,740 for the MS Society.

Miss Crowley, who is 33 and has worked at the sorting office for 16 years, was first diagnosed in December 2005.

Miss Crowley said: "It wasn't too much of a shock when I was diagnosed because the hospital had given me an idea of what it might be. Everybody felt sorry for me but I didn't want that. I have always been positive."

Colleagues suggested that the Mount Pleasant Post Office could choose the MS Society as its charity of the year.

Fundraising events included a quiz night, a swim-a-thon and a disco but the highlight was the human chain - when 500 workers, family and volunteers linked arms around the one mile square building in May.

The money raised was presented to the MS Society last Friday.

It was a record for the Mount Pleasant Post Office, which had raised about £10,000 the previous year.

Miss Crowley said: "This wasn't about me. It was about everyone that's been affected by MS. But I was touched by how much effort and affection towards me that people have shown.
