Tributes to keen cyclist and postman who died in Farmoor crash

THE FAMILY of a man who died after a crash on a road last Monday have paid tribute to him.

John Howes, aged 58, from Farmoor, died when his bicycle was involved in a collision with a van on Monday, October 28 on the B4044 between Oxford and Farmoor.

A statement released by his family said: "John Howes was a selfless, thoughtful and caring man, held in great regard by those lucky enough to have known him.


"He was well-known in the local community for his long service as a postman for Royal Mail, and for his volunteer work with his wife’s Brownie unit, where he would often help and was known as ‘Mr Tawny’.

"John was a keen cyclist who had cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats for charity, and then did so again, just for fun.

"He was a devoted and loving husband, father and son with a great sense of humour and a heart of gold.

"Even after his demise, he continues to give, as he has donated his kidneys, which his family hope will be life-changing for the recipients.”

Mr Howes' wife, children and mother are asking for their privacy to be respected while they mourn.

The police originally made an appeal for information about what happened last Friday

Anyone who remembers seeing Mr Howes cycling home from Oxford to Farmoor in the evening of October 28, or who has dash-cam footage of his journey, is urged to contact the police on 101, quoting reference number 43190336357.
