Hillfields flat residents watch mail blown away

RESIDENTS of a block of flats in Coventry have complained about mail being left outside.

They say that on several occasions last week, piles of letters were left outside the flats in Swanswell Street, Hillfields, leading tenants to complain to the Royal Mail sorting office, in Bishop Street, city centre.

But on Monday, they say, the same thing happened again and two residents ended up chasing around the garden to collect letters which had been blown around in the wind and soaked by the rain.

Tenant Liam Woolnough, 54, said: "When we went outside the letters were strewn all over the garden area. It's not the first time it's happened.

"There's a trade button the postman can use to bring the letters into the stairwell but they keep being left outside.

"Some of these letters must be very important and there are 54 people living in the flats."

Anethea Scallon, who helped Mr Woolnough retrieve the mail, said she had been to the Royal Mail depot three times to complain about the situation.
