Together and united behind their union banner, 100 Burslem strikers returned to work this morning after voting to accept a deal negotiated between national officials and senior Royal Mail management.
The agreement, which has brought a halt to one of the bitterest strikes in the sector for many years, meets the key demand of the strikers in providing for an independent element to all necessary appeals through a direct link to the national appeals panel, while no further cases will be brought.
In addition, the delivery office manager, whom many staff blame for initiating the dispute, is no longer in Burslem and there is also to be a full independent review into employee and industrial relations at the office.
Describing the deal as “a defeat for the past and a victory for the future,â€

We are pleased to report that our members in Burslem returned to work today after voting for an agreement to end the strike.
The resolution met the members' key demand of ensuring an element of independence should any appeals be necessary in the ongoing conduct cases.
Royal Mail have also agreed to jointly undertake an independent Industrial/Employee Relations review.
Finally, the deal also removed a number of conditions Royal Mail were initially insistent upon as part of any return to work.
It is important that every branch recognises that, although significant progress has been made, the campaign to support our members at Burslem will continue. Our members have stood firm in very difficult circumstances and have suffered severe financial hardship. Therefore, it is our intention to continue to raise money for our members in Burslem.
We know that our members are really grateful for the support they have had from across the Union. They have asked me to pass on their thanks to all CWU branches.
I know that, in turn, our branches will do their utmost to continue their financial support.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well done you burslem boys and girls. although the victory is not complete yet, the sacrafice and unity that you have shown has been recognised and admired in all branches throughout the uk, you are a credit not only to the CWU but to the whole trade union movement!!! Had a great day at the rally,but it was a fair old stomp

That sort of leave just means even Royal Fail don't know what to do with them , rearranging the deck chairs on The Titantic comes to mind . for Burslem , otherwise RM will go Union Bashing elsewhere as strike reprisals .The so -called change in culture that is required by RM .
We think hes gone to Sheffield or some where that way, if you do get him watch your backs this guy has no problem in bullying woman or threatening you when no ones listening or even lying to get his own way...UNITY IS STRENGTH.

Captain Smith of the Titanic was from Burslem or thereabouts, but there definately weren't deckchairs out on that ship, and not on any vessel when the weather was cold enough for icebergs.
