Thousands of homes in Plymouth affected by postal delays as Royal Mail delivery office floods

A flood at Royal Mail's West Park Delivery Office has affected deliveries in PL5 and PL6 areas.

Postal workers were understood to be unable to carry out their normal delivery routes this morning due to the incident at the delivery office in Coombe Park Lane, caused by the heavy rain across the city.

No mail has been damaged but a large part of the city's deliveries have been hit.

The areas affected include Barne Barton, Honicknowle, West Park, Kings Tamerton, St Budeaux, Riverside, Tamerton Foliot and Manadon, Crownhill, Eggbuckland, Woolwell, Roborough, Longbridge, Estover, Bickleigh, Widewell, Lopwell, Derriford, Glenholt, Whitleigh, Leigham and Southway.

In a statement Royal Mail said: "We can confirm that our West Park Delivery Office has been affected by flooding overnight, caused by heavy rainfall in the Plymouth area.

"There has been no damage to any mail and our staff are now back on site. The flooding has impacted mail deliveries in the PL5 and PL6 postcode areas and customers may experience a small delay in receiving some items.

"Our team are working hard to ensure all deliveries are made as soon as possible.
