Royal Mail is recruiting ex-cops to catch thieving posties and tackle a rising tide of scams.

As millions of people start sending Christmas cards and presents, postal chiefs are advertising on a police website for former coppers

They are being offered around £30,000 a year to look for posties stealing cash from kids’ cards and foil criminal gangs.

The job ads are on the Police Oracle web forum.

There has been a 51 per cent rise in complaints to the postal service about “disappearing parcels” over the past year, from 89,219 in 2016-17 to a record high of 134,712 reports in 2017-18.

There are more ex-coppers looking for work because 21,000 police jobs have been lost since David Cameron became Prime Minister in 2010.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “For many years we have recruited former police officers into our security team.

“But as the advertisement makes clear, we are not targeting ex-police officers exclusively.

"We seek the best candidates for a role based on their experience, qualifications and ability.”

Haha, sorry but you have to laugh !
It’s like employing poachers to act as gamekeepers in many cases.
Well done RM, maybe they could start giving instructions on how to adhere too and apply negotiated agreements and many other current mal practices currently used and applied by Royal Mail management on a “ national “ basis ?
A lot of dodgy dealings, dare I say corruption, from the very top !!!

UTTER NONSENSE. When RM were sold they started cost cutting so called back room functions which included, the IB, the ROYAL Mail investigation branch. They got rid of so many they ended up swamped and became a bit of a waste of space. Now the IB have always worked alongside the police in which town/area they happen to be operating in, being that about 75% at ex coppers and military police. So when it was getting to the state that the local hobbies were doing most of the work, without access to the inner workings of the GPO, cases were failing in court because of incompetence and lack of RM says of working. So now the unit based in Battersea DO in London is starting over and presently are looking for senior investigation managers and also covert officers. So they have been advertising in the police equivalent of the courier as obviously a lot of officers will be coming up to their 30 years, for full pension and still young enough with good experience. They have also been advertising on the RM jobs website. But there is a lot more info to come regarding the way that RM is currently set up. Put it this way. Do you want to become a lino. Don't bother.............
