A POSTMISTRESS from Butterwick has described how 'low-lifes' attempted to steal money from her shop, smashing freezers with a crowbar in an bid to scare her into handing over cash.
Two men entered the post office in Brand End Road at around 10.30am on Christmas Eve.
Owner Shirley Castle said: “Two low-lifes came in and started smashing the freezers with a crowbar.
“It’s something you can live without on Christmas Eve. I came out and stood on the other side of the freezer. I think they were just doing it to frighten us.
“My husband rang the police and shouted down that they were on their way and the men ran out the door.
“Police advised us to lock the door so they could get any finger-prints but the men only came in and stood there. We carried on. It was the last opportunity for people to get their pensions before Christmas.â€
