Royal Mail van 'likely to be write-off' after A38 lorry crash but post will still be delivered

The Royal Mail van that collided with a lorry near Stroud is ‘likely to be written off’ but the post will still be delivered.

The incident, which happened at around 8.50am on Thursday morning, saw the Royal Mail van collide with a flat bed truck carrying gas canisters before becoming wedged underneath it.


Two patients, including the Royal Mail driver, were taken to hospital and the postal service have confirmed that the vehicle is likely to be a write-off.

The post has been recovered from the vehicle and the Royal Mail aims to deliver it all by Friday.

Sally Hopkins, Royal Mail spokeswoman, said: “I can confirm that one of our drivers was involved in an accident on the A38 at Fromebridge earlier this morning (August 9, 2018) whilst en route to deliver to addresses in Arlingham village, Framilode and some neighbouring rural areas.

“Our driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and although shaken, does not appear to have been seriously injured.

“The mail was recovered from the scene and we will make every effort to deliver this today, with any outstanding items being delivered tomorrow.

“We apologise to customers in those areas for any inconvenience this may cause.”


Police and ambulance attended the scene of the crash where the road was closed from 8.50am until 10am to deal with the incident.


Ms Hopkins added: “Our van was seriously damaged and is likely to be a write-off.

“We are investigating the accident and assisting the police with their enquiries.”
