Tributes to 'gentle giant' postman found dead at Wirral beauty spot

Tributes have been paid to a 'gentle giant' postman who was found dead at a Wirral beauty spot.

Emergency services were called out to Croome Drive, Caldy Hill at around 8.30am on Monday after a member of the public raised the alarm.

Paramedics found the body of a man at the scene. Police then put a cordon in place around the scene.

The man has now been named locally as Phil Sheard.

Police said the death was being treated as unexplained.

Colleagues at Wallasey post office wrote a tribute to Phil, who they said will be "sorely missed."

They said: "Phil was a gentle giant. Always made people laugh.

"Such a funny man, he will be sorely missed in our office and our thoughts go out to his family and friends."


A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm emergency services are currently in attendance of Croome Drive and Caldy Hill, Wirral this morning following a report of a body being found in the area.

"Paramedics attended the wooded area near Croome Drive at around 8.30am but the man was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquires are ongoing to inform his next of kin. The death is currently being treated as unexplained."
