Mail not being delivered in parts of Westbury due to posties' sickness

SOME parts of Westbury are not having mail delivered when the town’s sorting office gets too busy, the Times can reveal.

It came to light after one man realised he’d had no post for two weeks.

Mike Dyer went to the office in the Northacre Industrial Park, where he was stunned to be told by staff that when they get busy, some parts of the town do not receive their post.

Mike, of Summer Road, said: “I’ve had very intermittent mail deliveries from Westbury sorting office over the past month or so especially.


“For instance my subscription copy of the Radio Times normally arrives on a Tuesday, and in the last two out of four weeks, it has not appeared at all.

“Also I recently ordered family photos which were supposed to arrive on Wednesday and they hadn’t arrived at all.

“I went up the sorting office just to let a human know and had a real shock.

“When Westbury sorting office gets busy, parts of the town never get their mail.

“They call it ‘mail latency’, not just delayed mail – they actually don’t deliver it at all.

“Certain areas of Westbury have been designated latency areas and when the sorting office gets overwhelmed, these areas never get their mail.

“What about people’s hospital appointments, cheques or bills?

“I’m honestly shocked. I thought it was illegal to withhold someone’s mail, but the man behind the counter said it wasn’t.

“In the last week it hasn’t been quite as bad, but there are still unanswered questions.

“Where are the mail latency areas in Westbury and why don’t they tell us so we can fetch our own mail?”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We have been experiencing some periods of higher than average sick absence in the Westbury area recently, which has resulted in some intermittent disruption to our services.

“We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience.

“We are doing all we can to restore a high quality of service to our customers.

Mail being failed every day in our office. Duties lapsed to enable lapsing and not covered . NOT being recorded or reported as failures. Way forward as it enables Mgmt bonuses as savings

You can why morale and (morals) are so low in Delivery at the moment.

This is happening in our office and for the life of me I can't understand how or why the management team are getting away with it. And no one seems to be accountable.


We are regularly lapsing duties and both mail and packets are being left in the frames for the next day. What a great agreement the Royal Mail and CWU made! Managers don't have to do it because they are not supposed to be doing OPG's work and Employment Agencies are not being used. Managers don't bother asking anyone to do the work on overtime.

The best thing is that you are not allowed to take pics of the work that is getting left behind on a daily basis so its anyone's guess on how bad the deliveries are failing or not because its probably not even being reported accurately.
