She was on suspended sentence when she assaulted the worker


A 24-year-old Boston woman has been jailed for an ‘unprovoked assault’ in which she bit a postal worker.

Antonia Danielle Hickman of Caleb Hill Road, Boston, admitted assaulting Philippa Maddison by beating when she appeared at Boston Magistrates’ Court.


Hickman, who was already on a suspended prison sentence, was with two other people at the town's Royal Mail sorting office when they became involved in a dispute with one of the postal workers.

Prosecuting, Ruth Snodin said the dispute resulted in an 'unprovoked assault' on the postal worker, Philippa Maddison, during which Hickman bit her.

It happened on the evening of June 15.

Ms Snodin said Hickman, who has a history of violence, told police after her arrest that she believed Ms Maddison had had an argument with her mother.

Ms Snodin said Hickman had been given a 10 week prison sentence suspended for a year in April 2017 but she had breached the order when she was convicted of causing damage in January this year and the period of the suspension had been extended to 18 months.

Mitigating, Mark Hudson said Hickman was 'very protective' of her mother and that many of her convictions had come from that.

Asking the magistrates not to impose the suspended prison sentence, he said she had been identified as having psychiatric and anger management issues which had not been addressed through no fault of her own.

However, the magistrates said it was a 'serious offence' and there was 'no reason why the suspended sentence should not be put into force'.


Hickman was given a seven week sentence for the original suspended prison sentence and 15 weeks in prison for the present case, to be served concurrently.

She was also ordered on her release to pay £300 compensation to Ms Maddison.

They have always happened to an extent but it just seems that RM are not prepared to back up the staff these days, like they used too. Bad karma all round.
