AN angry Royal Mail customer described Glasgow's postal service as a "shambles".
Iain Munro, from Scotstoun, hit out after finding mail for his street dumped in a garden.
And he says he ended up delivering the letters himself after waiting 11 days for Royal Mail to pick them up.
Mr Munro found items of mail, which included an air miles card full of his personal details, strewn in his neighbour's garden.
Utility bills and Christmas cards were also among the items.
According to Mr Munro, postal workers twice failed to turn up at his home to collect and redeliver the mail - despite his repeated calls and e-mails to managers.
Mr Munro said: "As far as I'm concerned, the service in this area is an absolute shambles.
"I was shocked when I found the mail in the garden, especially as some of the items were clearly important.
"Anybody could have picked them up.
"I immediately did everything I could to get sorting office staff to come and collect the mail for redistribution.
"I even waited in two Friday mornings in a row, but nobody appeared.
"I've also contacted Royal Mail's headquarters in London, but that hasn't helped either.
"In total I've made seven calls and sent six e-mails - a complete waste of time. It's pretty disgraceful."
Eventually frustrated Mr Munro, who says there have been problems with deliveries in his street for months, got fed up waiting and decided to deliver the mail himself.
He said: "I used to be a postman, so I know that mistakes can happen.
"But when someone takes the time to flag them up there's no excuse. When I delivered the letters to my neighbours by hand they were extremely angry with Royal Mail, especially since the general service has become so bad.
"I'm considering invoicing the Royal Mail for all my trouble."
However, postal bosses insist that they have been trying to resolve the situation.
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: "Royal Mail has made several unsuccessful attempts to contact the customer concerned.
"We will continue to try to speak to the customer at the earliest possible opportunity.
"Royal Mail will be investigating this incident fully and will take whatever action is necessary."
Last week the company was forced to apologise to customers in Aberdeen after 4000 items of mail were found languishing in a depot.
The letters and cards were finally delivered - a year late.
