Two people have been arrested after a raid on a sub-post office on Saturday.
The postmistress at North Newbald, near Market Weighton, phoned the police from an upstairs room to say a robber was demanding cash from her husband.
Insp Andy Dixon said an armed police unit responded at 1000 GMT and a car was seen leaving the village at speed.
He said it was later stopped by unarmed officers and a man and a woman were arrested. A handgun and an imitation firearm were recovered.
Insp Dixon said the postmaster received hospital treatment for injuries received in the incident but they were not life- threatening.
He has appealed for witnesses to contact the police with any information on 0845 6060222.
