GERMAN cops yesterday confirmed there was no foul play in the death of tragic Liam Colgan.

A post mortem was carried out after Liam, 29, was pulled from a Hamburg river 72 days after he vanished on brother Eamonn’s stag do.

His remains were taken to the city’s Institute for Forensic Medicine where experts ruled there was no evidence the Inverness postie was a crime victim.

A spokesman for Hamburg police said: “The autopsy gave no indication of a foreign influence.

“The corpse could be clearly identified as Liam Colgan.”

Investigators contacted Liam’s shattered family on Monday following his body’s recovery from the River Elbe after a passer-by raised the alarm at 6.40am.

His driving licence was found in a pocket and the clothes matched those Liam, 29, was wearing when he was last seen alive on February 10.

We told how his loved ones paid tribute to him as they struggled to come to terms with death.

An emotional post on Facebook read: “We would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for the incredible support we have received since Liam disappeared.

“Whilst we still await confirmation regarding the circumstances surrounding Liam’s death, there would appear to be no suspicious circumstances.

“This is an extremely difficult situation for us all to accept. Liam had a laid back, selfless personality.

“He was a genuinely great person who will be sorely missed. We love you Liam.”

Tributes were also left close to where his body was found.
