RESIDENTS have teamed up to raise hundreds of pounds for a charity to support people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
People living in the village of Burn collected £400 through their fundraising efforts over the past year.
The group decided to support The Alzheimer’s Society after Myles Boothman, who has been working as the neighbourhood postman for more than 30 years, nominated the charity.
He was guest of honour at a fundraising event when he was invited to switch on the Christmas lights.
He said: “I’m delighted to boost the funds of The Alzheimer’s Society and amazed by the generosity of this small village.
"I really appreciated my moment in the spotlight at the Christmas lights event in 2016, but this has made the experience even more memorable.”
As part of a tradition, residents support a nominated charity by holding fundraising events for 12 months after the Christmas lights are turned on.
The Alzheimer’s Society offers support for patients and people affected by dementia across the UK and helps promote research into the disease.
