Price of first and second class stamp set to increase in March, Royal Mail confirms

The price of first and second class stamps are increasing in March, Royal Mail has announced.

First Class stamps will go up by two pence to 67p at the end of March, while the price of a Second Class stamp will increase by two pence to 58p.

The changes will come into place on Friday 26 March. Price changes

First class stamp Now: 65p Soon: 67p
Second class stamp Now: 56p Soon: 58p

The price of a Large Letter First Class stamp will also rise by 3p to 101p.

A Large Letter Second Class stamp will rise by 3p to 79p.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said in a statement that the company understands many households and companies are finding it hard in the current economic climate, but stressed the changes will “help ensure the sustainability of the Universal Postal Service”.

‘Among best value in Europe’ Royal Mail has “considered any pricing changes very carefully and in doing so have sought to minimise any impact on our customers,” the spokesperson said.

The company claims its stamp prices are among the best value in Europe when compared with other postal operators. T

his year’s price rise is double that of last year, when Royal Mail increased the cost of first and second class stamps by one pence, citing the same reasons relating to the sustainability of the business and the wish to minimise the impact on customers.

Royal Mail is known for releasing special editions of stamps, often to mark cultural moments. The postal service commemorated David Bowie a year after his death with a set of 10 postage stamps. Last month it unveiled a Game of Thrones set of themed stamps, featuring popular characters including Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Arya Stark.
