East Dulwich residents are suffering the backlash from last month’s postal strike as its postmen, it is thought, are under instruction to deliver 'sorry you were out' cards rather than the parcel.

With sorters blaming the high quantity of post building up over the week-long strike on top of the pre-Christmas rush the furious local residents are having to pick up their post themselves from the Sylvester Road sorting office.

With one postman apparently caught in the act by resident Kit Whitfield, the management are being accused of failing to provide a service by encouraging a do-it-yourself postal service.

"On [Wednesday] 17 October, I caught a postman doing this and it turned out he didn't even have my parcel. He said: 'I don't know why we are being asked to put these through, but I don't have your parcel'" begun Whitfield,

"I understand it is the managers directing the notes to be delivered rather than the parcels as a result of the backlog from the industrial strike, but that was weeks ago. The idea of industrial action is to put pressure higher up the chain for management to make changes, not to push them to the bottom where, at the moment, it is the customer suffering.â€
