Wallasey post returns to normal after staff walk out in row with managers

Industrial action took place at Wallsaey Delivery Office on Thursday morning

Postal services in Wallasey are returning to normal after a walkout by Royal Mail workers over their treatment by managers.

Around 30 members of staff at Wallasey Delivery Office on Manor Road staged the unofficial industrial action on Thursday morning.

Workers gathered outside the delivery office at around 10am while talks took place between union representatives and managers, but were working as normal today.

The Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) and Royal Mail said there would be further discussions to resolve workers’ concerns about the way they were being spoken to by management.

Royal Mail apologised to customers and said there had been disruption to services in the CH44 and CH45 areas of Wallasey .

Royal Mail spokesman Sally Hopkins said: “Royal Mail can confirm that all staff returned to work at Wallasey delivery office this morning (Friday).

“Mail deliveries and collections will be made across the CH44 and CH45 postcode areas today and we are doing all we can to return all services to normal as quickly as possible.

“We apologise to customers for the disruption to our services as a result of the unballoted industrial action taken by the Communication Workers Union (CWU).”

Mark Walsh, branch secretary of CWU Merseyside, told the ECHO on Thursday: “The issue has been resolved and staff will be working normally again on Friday.

“The issue was over the way the staff were being spoken to. Some felt they weren’t being spoken to properly by management.”

Mr Walsh said the union would be holding talks with managers over the next few weeks to find a way forward.

Royal Mail had said it would bring in “extra resources” to minimise disruption caused by the strike.
