THE postal watchdog fears that the recent strike by Royal Mail workers, including unofficial action in Liverpool, may have driven away many business customers.
Postal regulator Postcomm says the industry must innovate to win back market share.
The Communication Workers’ Union staged a series of official stoppages in protest over wage demands and feared job losses.
Following an official 48 hour stoppage Liverpool postal workers staged nine days of unofficial action during October over changes in working conditions which paralysed deliveries.
Postcomm spokesman David Whitely said: “The effects of the strike on customer behaviour may not be known for a year or 18 months, but what we would be worried about is during the strike large mailers or businesses sought alternatives to mail.â€

[quote]He revealed that Postcomm’s business survey next year will target small firms in a bid to explain the benefits of the mail system since it was opened up to competition: “Much more needs to be done to reach out to these businesses. Our two mantras are customer focus and innovation. That goes for every operator, not just Royal Mail.â€

oh yeah strikes drove away the business.nothing to do with the fact that these leetching companies are allowed to undercut r.m..
forcing rm to give all the business to these cherry pickers..and to top it all off, these leetches then giving us the work back to deliver..
if rm focused more on the regulator then it did on trying to destroy the workforce then we wouldnt be in this mess.

as soon as rm finish ruining this industry and we are either bought out or privatised watch the prices soar, then these businesses that are leaving rm will be back to square one, poor service and higher prices. just take a look at other public services that have become private industries. our current prices across the board are keeping competitors prices reasonable. once we are gone they can charge what they like.

Well I'm glad RM have lost so much business to other companies. Since the strikes I've had at least 1 extra bag per day every day, if not 2, I'm sure that in a few years time, what with these declining mail volumes that I'm delivering, I'll be taking out 15-20 bags a day and delivering for 10 hours. I think I do enough every day just listening to and dealing with all the cr*p that RM and Postcomm sprout, without giving a t*** about the long term implications. If it means job losses, well they can start with the 64%, if it means my job, fine. I just don't care anymore. Sorry bad day/week/month/year.

As per usual Postcomm making waves to ensure that they keep their well paid jobs. We all know that the big companies have already switched to DSA and that the government (Labour Class Traitors) have sent their mail through private companies (TNT and the lost CDs). The middle and small size companies cannot afford to send their mailings through private companies due to the costs. They have not gone anywhere, as soon as we were back to work they came flooding back. Postcomm and the businessmen are using smoke and mirrors to blind the government into privatising this service, not that the government don't want to.
