Postman foils burglary while on mail round in Sunny Bank Road, Whitefield

A BURGLARY was foiled this afternoon by a 'top' postman.

Thieves were disturbed during a break-in in Sunny Bank Road, Whitefield, at around 1pm this afternoon by a Royal Mail postman.

Having been disturbed, the four thieves fled down Burndale Drive and the postman called the police.

A spokesperson for the Royal Mail said: "The actions of this postman demonstrate exactly why our postmen and women are such highly valued members of their local communities.

“Our people make daily deliveries to almost 30 million addresses in the UK, and this makes them more visible on the streets than policemen, and they are often first at the scene in cases of fire, road accidents, and robbery, and instinctively get involved."


Greater Manchester Police's Whitefield division, tweeted: "Break into house on Sunnybank 1pm today. Thieves disturbed by top Royal Mail postman who called the cops.

"Four males ran off down Burndale Drive."
