A FLEETWOOD mum has a hero postie to thank for saving her tiny daughter.
Terri Hine, 20, flew into a panic when her 14-month-old daughter, Tia, had a fit and stopped breathing.

Rescue came from the most unlikely of sources in the form of postman Derek Neave, who dropped his pile of letters and parcels to give the tot life-saving treatment.

Derek, who when he isn't delivering the mail is a retained fireman at Fleetwood Fire Station, jumped into action to give baby Tia essential first aid.

Using his fire service first-aid training he gave the little girl the kiss of life.

Using CPR he was able to get her heart beating again, and buy time for an ambulance to reach the scene.

Derek, 37, of Devon Avenue, was on his regular round on We
sthead Walk when he heard Terri screaming.

Terri said: "Tia's hands just started shaking and her eyes were rolling, then she stopped breathing.

"It was terrifying and we didn't know what to do.

"But then Derek appeared. He knew first aid and was able to help.
"He told us if it had been a few minutes later, it would all have been too late."

Ambulance crews were able to get Tia to hospital, where she made a full recovery.

Grateful grandmother, Adele Hine, 41, said: "There is no doubt what would have happened if Derek wasn't there. He literally saved her life."

Derek has already been commended for his bravery by the fire service for his role in another incident.

Four years ago he helped save an elderly man from a blaze in Radcliffe Road in the port.

He said: "It is just part of our training. "It just came to me automatically.

"Thankfully I was able to do enough."

Not a chance! He'd have to slip a political party several hundred thousand quid first.
