Postal worker suffers significant injuries in 'horrendous' dog attack

A postal worker suffered "significant injuries" after being attacked by two dogs on her round near Boston.

The attack, which took place in Gold Fen Lane in Wrangle on Tuesday, July 4 at lunchtime, saw the Royal Mail worker rushed to hospital.

The two Doberman dogs involved in the incident have been seized by Lincolnshire Police who have now launched an investigation into the incident.

Robert Kelly told the BBC that it was a really “horrendous attack” and the worker is still in recovery though she will hopefully be able to leave hospital in the coming days.

The incident comes after figures revealed postal workers in Lincolnshire have been attacked by dogs 200 times over the last five years.

Last year there were 28 attacks in the Lincoln area alone.

Postal worker Claire Hardcastle told the BBC she has been attacked several times in her 14 year career as a postie.

She said: "I am literally scared. You know, you get that feeling, your heart starts beating. Even when I hear a leaf rustling on the floor sometimes you think that there is a dog behind you."

She was left with scars on her leg after an incident with farm dogs.

"It's a very dangerous situation," she said.

"Dogs are pack animals at the end of the day, and with three of them attacking it was bad - but it could have been a lot worse if all three of them had sunk their teeth in and attacked at the same time."

Royal mail are urging dog owners to keep their pets away from delivery workers.
