Chester's 'Norrie Tree' ready for Xmas

Adrian Prins and his colleagues from Chester Mail Centre are keeping alive the memory of their late friend and comrade Norrie Summers – and this is one tree that won’t be cut down for Christmas.

When Norrie – a former processing rep at the unit – sadly passed away back in 2007, his colleagues planted a fir tree in his memory.

And over the years, the tree has grown tall, but earlier this year, it was obvious the Norrie Tree was in dire need of a makeover.

Taking up the story, Adrian tells us: “I approached Norrie’s lads, Lee and Rob – who still work at Chester MC – for their permission to upgrade their father’s tree, which they very kindly gave, and then I asked around at work for some help.

“Without fail everyone whom I spoke to about this make over wanted to help or to offer advice, and without exception all had a story to tell of Norrie and they all recounted their tales with a smile on their faces whilst doing so.”

After a lot of hard work by all, the Chester Norrie Tree now stands proudly within its own small garden, surrounded by freshly planted Scottish heathers and headed with a dedication plaque.

“Many, many thanks to everyone who helped,” says Adrian, adding: “It’s a fitting reminder to Norrie – former serviceman, friend, CWU rep and colleague.”
