Royal Mail charity convoy to Moldova, Abdul Khalifah and Diana Moore
Two postmen from Watford will lead a convoy of Royal Mail trucks delivering toys and gifts to children in Moldova next year and are asking for donations now.
Abdul Khalifah, 50, from Chester Road, in Watford, will drive one of the Royal Mail trucks across Europe as part of an annual trip organised by the Communication Workers’ Union Humanitarian Aid (CWUHA).
Next May the convoy will leave from the Royal Mail depot in Caxton Way, Watford, and will travel to Moldova and Mr Khalifah and his colleague Diane Moore are asking people to donate now.
He said: “We are asking people and businesses to donate any unwanted stationery, toiletries, children and young adult’s clothing and books.
“People can come into the Royal Mail office and give their donations to us or they can contact us and we will do a pick up.”
Other items include coats, school uniforms, sports clothes, shoes, toys, writing pads, books, shampoo, soaps, tooth paste, woman's products, nappies, deodorants, pasta, rice, tea, tinned fruit and vegetables, microwaves, ovens, kettles, cutlery, plates and washing powder.
Last year was the 20th anniversary of CWUHA and they rebuilt a school for disabled children.
Mr Khalifah said: “It is a great feeling seeing the reaction of the children’s faces when we turn up.
“When we met last year, we met the British ambassador and the Prime Minister of Moldova as well.”
