ROYAL Mail which includes a large mail centre in Swindon, has for the second year running, been presented with the Corporate Supporter of the Year Award at the Stroke Association’s annual Life After Stroke Awards.
The award was handed over by actress and recent Strictly Come Dancing contestant Lesley Joseph and Comedian Duncan Norvelle at a ceremony held at London’s Dorchester Hotel earlier this month.
Royal Mail has been working with the Stroke Association as part of its Charity of the Year programme and aims to raise £2 million to fund 10,000 Life After Stroke grants. The grants fund equipment to give stroke survivors more independence, enabling them to take their first steps back into the community.
Nina Walker, Deputy Director of Fundraising at the Stroke Association said: “The vital funds raised by Royal Mail have made a tremendous difference to the lives of people affected by stroke. Thanks to the time, generosity and enthusiasm of all our employees, we can provide even more Life After Stroke Grants: a lifeline which helps stroke survivors make their best possible recovery.
“We’ve seen Royal Mail employees get involved with skydives, bake sales, raffles, numerous head shaves and their very own bush trucker trial, all in aid of the Stroke Association. No challenge has been too daunting for them and we are delighted with just how many have gone the extra mile to fundraise for the charity and make a difference to the lives of stroke survivors.”
