New till layout at Post Office in Watford's WH Smith has not been well thought out

In the Post Office in Watford’s WH Smith, management have tried to be very upmarket by introducing what they probably consider automation.

The original five tills have been reduced to two and in their place a number of flashing machines which are intended for customers just wanting to post letters or parcels. Often there is a loud pitched noise.

Management would do well to attend their Post Office to discover the chaos they have caused.

This morning, some 30 customers were queuing at the tills whilst a young lady was rushing from one flashing machine to another trying to explain to the customers how these new-fangled machines work.


At this time, only one till was being manned for some 30 customers.

Angry customers at the tills soon made their anger known and a second till was quickly manned.

Would the Post Office management, through the pages of the Watford Observer, explain the reason for these changes?

Their staff are having to suffer the abuse of customers and this is very unfair.

A notice at the back of the Post Office states something like saving times but not customer anger.
