Post Office chiefs have apologised to residents in one of Glasgow's poorest areas who have been hit with fees to withdraw cash following a branch closure.
Customers no longer have 24-hour access to a free ATM machine in Carmyle in the city's East End after a post office was relocated.
The branch in Gardenside Avenue, which had an external cash machine, was closed and relocated to a newsagents on Carmyle Avenue.
Post Office intended to install another free, external cash machine but is unable to because the owner of Freddy's Newsagents has a long-standing contract with another provider for an ATM in the store.
When the shop closes at 6pm, residents have no option but to use cash machines in two other grocery stores, which both incur a charge of at least £1.75.
Local councillor Anne Simpson said she had been inundated with complaints from local residents.
She said: "We are quite an isolated community.
"Two other grocers have an ATM but both charge for withdrawals. The nearest free cash machine is in Tollcross or Cambuslang.
"If we had known this the community would have objected to the relocation of the Post Office."
A Post Office spokesperson said: “We apologise to customers that currently we are unable to install an external ATM at Carmyle Post Office.
"Customers are able to access free cash withdrawals within the branch, seven days a week, during normal Post Office opening hours 5am to 6pm; Monday to Saturday and 6am to 4pm on Sunday.”
Research has shown that more than 300,000 people from Britain's poorest areas have no free-to-use cash machines within 1km (0.6 mile) of their homes.

Figures obtained from the Link network, which operates Britain's ATM network, revealed that there are 269 low-income areas with no free ATMs nearby.
It means people face a fee from 75p to £10 to withdraw their money.
