Ashtead and East Horsley Royal Mail delivery offices to close

Royal Mail's Ashtead delivery office will be closed by the end of September and re-located to Leatherhead.

Royal Mail has confirmed that it is to relocate both its Ashtead and East Horsley delivery offices to Leatherhead when their leases on the current buildings expire in September 2016 and January 2017 respectively.

A spokeswoman for the company, Sally Hopkins, has said that the move will not impact customers and there will be no compulsory redundancies as a result.

She said: "Royal Mail has confirmed it is to relocate its delivery operations in East Horsley and Ashtead to its office in Leatherhead.

"Ashtead delivery office is expected to move in August/September 2016 as the lease on the existing building expires in September 2016. East Horsley delivery office is expected to move in January 2017.

"This is part of Royal Mail's ongoing transformation of its business and work to increase the efficiency of its operation as well as providing delivery offices that are fit for purpose for our staff and for our customers.

"As a commercial business, Royal Mail is responding to the huge growth in electronic communications and decline in letter volumes."

Following the move Ashtead customers will have to collect any undeliverable mail from the customer service point at Leatherhead delivery office.

East Horsley customers will be able to collect any undeliverable mail from Station Road Post Office in East Horsley

The move will see the 20 staff currently at the Ashtead office move to Leatherhead.
