Members of the public will get their chance to quiz Royal Mail after posties in the area were forced to sort mail in public car parks.

Following the closure of Ballater’s sorting office, postal workers have no choice but to work in a car park.

Earlier this month, Royal Mail made the decision not to renew the lease of the Deeside sorting office, which serves Ballater, Crathie and Braemar.

A meeting will be chaired by Rev David Barr in Glen Muick Parish Church tomorrow at 7.30pm.

Elected politicians from the area and representatives from the Communications Workers Union (CWU) will attend.

Councillor Geva Blackett who set up a petition said it is a problem that affects the whole community.

She said: “We want to find a solution to this problem as soon as possible.

“This meeting will allow people from the area to voice their opinions to try to help Royal Mail find a solution.

“We would like to let Royal Mail know that the service they provide is something the community needs.”

So far the petition has received more than 450 signatures online.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We are liaising with the council on this matter.

“In the meantime, we will continue to provide our usual service to our customers in Ballater. “Royal Mail will be attending the public meeting later this week.”
