Falmouth postman Jonathan Plummer will be swapping the streets of Falmouth for London later this month when he takes part in his first London Marathon in aid of Cancer Research UK.
The work of the charity holds special significance for Jonathan, who was diagnosed with brain cancer when he was 21, but managed to make a full recovery thanks to the help of Cancer Research. He said: "Thanks to the fantastic work at Cancer Research I was able to beat cancer and return to full health."
Sadly other members of Jonathan's family were not so fortunate, having lost their fights with cancer. "Both my grandfathers, an aunt (Rona) and a cousin (Karen) sadly passed away because of this terrible disease," said Jonathan. "My aim is to run the London Marathon to raise money for Cancer Research UK so everyone who is diagnosed with cancer can make a full recovery. Cancer Research are doing a fantastic job and hopefully very soon everyone can beat cancer."
Jonathan, who is also fixture secretary at Penryn Rugby Club, added: "I use to play rugby before cancer but had to give up for safety reasons, so I joined the committee instead."
