Parcel arrives in Quedgeley - 10 years after it was ordered

After it was ordered, ten years ago, a parcel has finally been delivered to a house in Quedgeley.

The parcel was ordered in 2006 and Phil Jenkins believed that it had been simply lost in the post.

Then, after the couple had long since forgotten about the order they had placed, for programmes, out of the blue, the parcel turned up.

Phil, who ordered the parcel, said: "When I came home one day it was left on the doorstep.

"It was tatty and covered in spiders and cobwebs; I had no idea what it might have been."

Once the parcel was opened, it was revealed that it contained programmes for the Buddy Holly musical from the early 1990s.

Caroline Fry, 47, Phil's partner, was collecting the programmes at the time.

Phil said: "I ordered the programmes off eBay for her.

"There were many different leading men in that musical so she wanted to collect every single copy."

The couple now have a theory that the package may have fallen down the side of one of the sorting machines at the Royal Mail and remained hidden for years

However, the Royal Mail has not told the couple the reason for the late delivery.

"She was ordering so many at that point in time that it slipped our mind that one hadn't arrived," said Phil.

"We always assumed that they had all arrived, until the parcel arrived."

The parcel was finally delivered on Monday, February 29, 2016, a decade after it was ordered.

Phil added: "Caroline has put it with the rest of them in a drawer now.

"It'll probably be lost in there for another ten years now."

The date and year the package of sending were missing from the parcel when it was delivered.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "It is likely that this parcel has been put back into the postal system by someone, rather than it being lost in the post.

"Once at item is in the postal system then it will be delivered to the address on the parcel.

"Royal Mail does its utmost to deliver all items of mail every day."

We've not got packer sorting machines now so we certainly didn't have them ten years ago.

And if that had happened would the cleaners have missed it every day / week for ten years ?

when our office was refurbished and new prep frames put in and new primary frames etc, down the back of one of the primary frames was a post card from Skegness going to one of our local streets, it was dated august 1979. the house it was to be delivered to had long since been demolished. so it can happen.

A post card yes but not a parcel that size.
