Residents across HA2 call on Royal Mail to find their missing post

More residents of HA2 have called on Royal Mail to find their missing post after it transpired roads across the postcode were affected by more than a month of delivery problems.

Last week it emerged people who live in Chester Drive had not received their post correctly between late November and New Year – missing out on Christmas cards along with important insurance reminders.

Now residents of neighbouring streets including Norwood Drive and roads across the postcode area to Hooking Green have joined the fight to get their missing mail after experiencing the same delivery problems.

Susan Troke, of Hooking Green, said she did not realise the problem was so widespread.

She said: “In Hooking Green post stopped arriving around the middle of November last year but at first I thought it was just one of those things.

“As we went into December myself, together with my neighbours in my road, started to realise we were not receiving post that had been sent to us. This included bills, hospital results, hospital appointments, Christmas cards and even small packages.

“Myself and my next door neighbour made contact with Royal Mail through their website and despite a number of calls neither of us got any response whatsoever.”

Mrs Troke visited the Harrow depot and explained what she was missing, including at least 25 Christmas cards, a cheque for more than £800 and an important packet containing a medical elastic sleeve specially made for her arm.

The following day the elastic sleeve was delivered.

But to date, she has still not received any letter post from mid-November to New Year.

Mrs Troke said: “Since December most of us know we are still missing many Christmas cards and lots of letter post.

“I belong to a small social club in North Harrow and through other members there I am informed that Station Road, North Harrow, and other roads around us have also been affected.

“We all want our missing post.”

While a Norwood Drive resident said: “I am also aware that others in my road had no mail and some neighbours were subjected to high interest charges as bills were not received and late payment fees ensued."

“I too would like my missing mail returned.

“One wonders how many Christmas presents were not received and where they have ended up.”

She made a complaint to Royal Mail and was told by a customer service adviser that “of the huge volumes of letters and packets we handle, very few encounter a problem along the way – but we take every single failure seriously”.

The adviser said no reason could be identified as to why the problems occurred and that Royal Mail cannot trace items unless a trackable service is used.

Bosses at Royal Mail said they were concerned and are investigating the situation.

Spokesman Rhys Jones said: "We have initiated a disciplinary procedure in relation to the poor service customers experienced however cannot comment on this in greater detail.

"At this time, we do not have any evidence to suggest any mail was withheld or not delivered to customers, however we will continue to investigate this."
