Worcester man furious with Royal Mail after more than 400 pounds goes missing in the post

A WORCESTER man is furious with the Royal Mail after claiming they lost more than £400 cash sent to his son for Christmas, and refusing to offer compensation.
Warndon resident Phillip Probert contacted the Worcester News after his claim for compensation was turned down by the Royal Mail.
The 39-year-old said he sent two cards through the post to his son, Joseph, who lives in Somerset, just before Christmas.
The cards were from himself and Joseph's grandmother, one with £450 in and the other with £40 in - a total of £490.
Mr Probert said he went into Warndon Post Office on December 22, paying for the recorded delivery service, as he wanted to ensure the cards got through to his son within a day and the contents were insured.
But Joseph called him on December 23 to say he had not received the cards, resulting in Mr Probert making a complaint and compensation claim.
After a long wait for a reply, Royal Mail's escalated customer resolution team emailed him at the end of February to say the missing cards had not been found, and he would not be compensated for the missing cash.
Mr Probert said: "I checked the online tracking system, all it kept saying was the cards were 'on their way'.
"I feel like I've been robbed and so has my son.
"How can they say it is a guaranteed service, when the cards were never delivered?
"I have been sending birthday and Christmas cards with money in for the past 10 years, and never had any problems before."
Mr Probert added he was now appealing to the Postal Review Panel about the situation, but wanted to highlight his problems to prevent it happening to someone else.
"My son celebrated his 21st March - but I refused to post a card again. I can not trust the Royal Mail," he added.
A Royal Mail spokesman said they were sorry to hear of the problems experienced by Mr Probert.
"Every item of mail is important to Royal Mail and the vast majority of the tens of millions of cards and letters we handle each day are delivered without incident," the spokesman said.
"Our customer service team had progressed Mr Probert’s complaint and has responded, explaining our guidelines and policies on compensation claims.
"We are now waiting for Mr Probert to provide additional evidence, such as certificate of posting or proof of value, so that we can progress this matter further.”

So he sent it Recorded Delivery instead of Special Delivery and hasn't yet provided a certificate of posting.

£450 in cash and yet he's too tight to pay a measly £6.50 for SD.

I think he did use special delivery.
I think the article got it wrong.
He sent it on the 23rd December and wanted guaranteed next day delivery with insurance, that would be special delivery.
The reason his son didn't get his money is because some scumbag working for us stole it and the reason he's not getting the insurance is because he hasn't got his proof of postage possibly because he wasn't told he would need it.
Overall he's been screwed over...

Unfailing, the counter staff tell the poster that they need to keep the receipt to claim, (should the need arise) and even if they didn't, surely he's a big boy who's done this sort of thing before, and realises that sending wads of cash through the post really needs the added security of a proof of posting or whatever?is because he hasn't got his proof of postage possibly because he wasn't told he would need it.
No matter what systems or procedures are in place, there's always one stoomer who doesn't follow the rules, then goes whining to the press when things go awry.

Without proof of posting they only have his word that he actually posted it, if we pay out compo to everyone who claimed it without proof we would be out of business in 6 months.
Only a fool would send a large amount a cash like that and not keep some form of proof or receipt.

But if the 'fool' hasn't got the proof of posting with the tracking number then the courier can't help him.fishtank wrote:Or only a fool uses a courier that can't find a supposedly tracked, supposedly secure product..

The courier lost the item Mr Lizard, the courier should be jumping through hoops to help him and more importantly trying to protect its own reputation.
He has the tracking details, the time and place it was posted and the recipient address, the only thing in question is what was in it and is that worth a shitload of bad press? At the end of the day one of our lot f****d up whether there was a fiver in the card or five hundred.

How has the courier "f*cked up" if the sender can't prove it was ever sent?
