AN INQUEST has opened into the death of an Abergavenny man whose body was found in the River Usk on Monday.
Retired postman John Sullivan, aged 66, was reported missing from his home during the morning on February 22, and after a search his bicycle was found near Llanfoist Bridge.
His body was pulled from the river between 300 and 400 yards downstream at about 10am.
A post-mortem carried out at Abergavenny’s Nevill Hall Hospital recorded his cause of death as drowning.
An inquest into his death was opened today, Wednesday, and adjourned for two months to a date to be confirmed while investigations are carried out into his death, which is not being treated as suspicious.
