Drug user who got friend to post cannabis from Birmingham because it was cheaper is fined

A dozy drug-user tried to have his supply sent through the Royal Mail because cannabis was too expensive locally.

Scott Sharp asked a friend in Birmingham to post the drugs more than 300 miles to his home in Perth.

However his scheme was rumbled when staff at the Fair City sorting office became suspicious and called in police.

Yesterday at Perth Sheriff Court Sharp, of High Street, Perth, was fined after pleading guilty to the offence.

Fiscal depute Carol Whyte told the court: “A package was received at the Royal Mail delivery office.

“Police found the package contained herbal cannabis weighing 23.1g and with an estimated value of £346.50.

“The accused was traced and said a friend had posted cannabis to him. In his interview he accepted he had asked a friend to post the cannabis to him as it was so expensive in the local area.”

Sheriff Christopher Shead ordered the 45-year-old, who was not present and pled guilty by letter, to pay £200.
