Royal Mail to close Lossiemouth delivery office

THE Royal Mail has confirmed it is closing its delivery office in Lossiemouth.

The organisation announced today (Thursday) that all operations will relocate to Elgin’s delivery office in late spring. There will be no job losses as a result of the move.

Royal Mail spokeswoman Morag Turnbull said the switch is required as the current High Street location in Lossiemouth "is no longer fit for purpose".

It will mean that there is no collection point for undeliverable mail in Lossiemouth, with residents having to make alternative arrangements or pick items up from Elgin.

Ms Turnbull said: "This is part of Royal Mail’s ongoing transformation of its business and its work to increase the efficiency of its operation, as well as providing delivery offices that are fit for purpose for our staff and for our customers.

"As a commercial business, Royal Mail is operating in a market where letters are in structural decline and where there is competition in letters and parcels. The Lossiemouth office is no longer fit for purpose, as we now deal with many more parcels."

According to Ms Turnbull, there will be "no impact" on deliveries, which will be carried out by existing postmen and women.

"Royal Mail is, unfortunately, no longer able to offer a collection point for undeliverable mail in Lossiemouth as it was not able to secure suitable premises," she said.

"All services, including picking up mail, will transfer to Elgin delivery office, which has increased opening hours and improved facilities for customers."
