Chester postman's plea to fly critically ill mother home from Bulgaria

A POSTMAN from Chester is calling on people to help him raise £26,000 to bring his critically ill mother home from Bulgaria.

Paul Tucker, 44, said he was desperate to get his mother, Maureen Morton, 66, back to the UK after a stroke last month left her paralysed down her left side.

The move abroad in 2013 was meant to be a dream retirement for her – but she suffered a brain haemorrhage just before Christmas.


After seeking the help of both the British consulate and St Marina Hospital in Varna, Mr Tucker was advised they couldn’t help financially with Mrs Morton’s repatriation, forcing her children to try to raise the money they need online.

Mr Tucker and his sister Sarah have both been to visit their mother and on their return they launched a GoFundMe fundraising page. So far have collected £5,500 from family, friends and supporters.

Mr Tucker said: “The last email we received from the British Embassy explained the St Marina Hospital administration has become insistent that my mum needs to be discharged and transferred to a hospice.

“We have exhausted all options open to us and we just don’t know what to do for the best.

“The success of the GoFundMe page has given us all hope and we are so thankful for the generosity of those who have donated. We all, especially the grandchildren so desperately want her back safely, in the UK so we can look after her.”
